Hyde Park Residential

About:

The Proof is a residential complex in Hyde Park, MA, named in tribute to the site’s layered industrial history—from a former distillery to nearby printing presses powered by the Neponset River. This identity draws from that legacy, blending timeless sophistication with modern craft.

Inspired by "The New Traditional", the design reinterprets classic elements for a new generation—one that values authenticity, inclusivity, and a strong sense of place. A refined serif typographic system features elongated forms and a custom ligature between the “F” and “O,” adding a distinctive moment of craft. This detail evolves into a graphic motif that echoes the stem of a martini glass—a subtle nod to the distillery past.

The palette—rich green, warm cream, and clay—conveys quiet luxury and ties back to aged spirits and artisanal materials, grounding the brand in heritage while looking forward.

Challenge

Using green and beige as the core palette risked evoking an Irish pub; something that felt off-tone for the refined, heritage-meets-modern brand I was aiming for. I also wanted to reference the site’s distillery history in a subtle, elevated way, but creating a pattern with an alcohol-related reference risked coming across as too on-the-nose or thematic.

Solution

To elevate the palette and shift it away from cliché, I introduced a clay-orange accent. It added warmth, contrast, and a sense of quiet luxury that balanced the green and beige. For the motif, I leaned into the shape of a martini glass—specifically, how the ligature connecting the “F” and “O” resembled a stem. That shape became the foundation of a refined, abstract pattern that feels sophisticated first, and clever once the connection clicks.
